Building Our Community: How Can I Help?

Hi, everyone! I hope you’re all having a great week so far!

Instead of a regular article-type post this week, I wanted to focus on building our community and learning how I can help make Unapologetically Written for you all!

If you’re comfortable sharing ideas, I’d like for you to take some time and list a few topics that you’d like for me to discuss here on the blog. If you’re feeling particularly helpful, you can even add in ways you’d like for me to approach these topics or pose questions for me to address (for example: “How do you feel about _____?”). You can do all of this in the comments!*

I want to focus more on making my blog a community where we all feel comfortable voicing our opinions and thoughts, and I’d like to begin the process by getting ideas out in the open so that I can offer my personal opinions on things as an attempt at encouraging you all to do the same!

Any feedback at all will be extremely helpful! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this!

Much love!

  1. I hope this isn’t too personal.

I’m trying to do better on taking care of myself, but I’m honestly not sure where to even start. I see some people tracking their habits and such but I feel too insecure and like I would be judged harshly by the ones I love to even try. I struggle mostly with my anxiety blurring the lines on things I should be able to separate. For example: when I’m in a conversation with someone and a joke or reference is made to a movie or tv show I tend to not know when to stop talking and usually end up making it obvious that I have no idea what I’m talking about and sounding completely stupid. I try to think things through before I say them, but that’s usually when the worst possible thing I could say just blurts out of my mouth. It’s so frustrating.

    1. It’s definitely not too personal! I think these are things that a lot of people struggle with.

I think that tracking your habits and mental health is a really helpful way to get started, and it’s what I personally used to start taking better care of myself. Just remember that no one has to see it if you don’t want them to! I don’t really show mine to anyone, and I think it helps me to have some aspect of my life that I don’t share. Starting a blog has made me open up about a lot of things, and although it does make me feel good to be open and help others, I need some things to be private. Even if you did share your tracking, I don’t think anyone would judge you. In short, I think that tracking would be a great way to start taking care of yourself and helping you see what you need to work on most, and I highly recommend it; don’t feel as if you have to share or that you’ll be judged! ❤

I think this is something that I struggle with at times, too. Often times if someone brings up a topic that I enjoy or that I know a lot about, I start to talk about it a lot and don't really know when to stop, and it always makes me paranoid that I'm being annoying or something. For me, it helps to remember that I'm among friends and that my friends will love me even if I *am* being annoying. As for more helpful advice, I think when this happens, it's important to try not to worry about how you think you sound and not to get too caught up on the conversation. I think this is something that happens to a lot of people, and I don't think it's really a bad thing. Seeing what makes someone excited and passionate is nice. I mean, there are groups and clubs and whatnot dedicated to tons of fandoms, movies, TV shows, etc., and the main point of them is to talk "too much" about that topic, so I wouldn't automatically say that what you're doing is a bad thing! Just be yourself, and don't worry too much about what others think or if you're talking too much.

We all have things that we struggle with; it's only human!

Thank you so much for this suggestion! I'll do my best to discuss ways to take better care of yourself—private methods and methods you may feel more comfortable sharing with others—and ways that anxiety can affect us in day-to-day situations like conversations and how to deal with them! I'm really glad you brought up things that so many people struggle with, myself included!
